Course Details
The 2-day, 16-hour Pit and Fissure Sealants course is a California Dental Board approved course number PF182, which fulfills the certification requirements for an RDA’s renewing an RDA license, and/or RDA’s seeking to perform pit and fissure sealant on patients in a dental office. Upon completing this course, the graduate will earn a certificate in Pit and Fissure Sealants.
Important Regulatory Regulations:
The Pit and Fissure Sealants course is a requirement for all Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) applicants under the new Dental Board regulations, effective July 1, 2025. The certificate earned cannot be used, until the holder recieves their RDA License.
This 16-hour stand-alone course is approved by the Dental Board of California (Approval #PF182). Because it consists of 32 hours or less of instruction and does not independently lead to a separate employment classification, it is exempt from BPPE approval under CEC § 94837.
Admission Requirements
This course is open to all Registered Dental Assistants (RDA) and those working towards obtaining their RDA, Must be 18 years of age or older. Under 18 years of age with parents consent.
You must have the following sent to oceanpointesj@gmail.com (required before receiving course material required for the didactic (lecture) portion of class)
DA qualified to take the RDA exam. RDA'S & DA must send with registration copies of:
- certificate of completion for an eight-hour Board-approved infection control course
- certificate of completion for a Board-approved coronal polishing course
- certificate of completion for a Board-approved California Dental Practice Act course
- certificate of completion for a Board-approved Radiation Safety course
- valid BLS certificate card from a Board-approved provider

4 Hours Lab/Pre-Clinical – Hands-on instruction on typodonts at our Oceanpointe of San Jacinto facility
8 Hours Clinical Procedure – Performed on four of your own patients at our Oceanpointe of San Jacinto facility

- 4 clinical patients: each patient must have at least one non-carious, non-restored, natural tooth sufficiently erupted in each quadrant.
- Teeth may be molars or premolars.
Certification Upon Completion
Certification & CE Units 16 CE Units awarded upon successful completion of the course and all competencies. Pit & Fissure Sealant Certificate issued after completion

Oceanpointe Dental Assistant Academy is a great school to become a dental assistant. You learn everything fast and efficient in 10 weeks. The online modules are a little time consuming but if you are consistent with them you will be fine.
